urlybird - URL Capture Agent for Windows

urlybird is a URL minder.

Neat. Little. Handy.

URLs - they're all over the place. In this web site, that email that you just got done reading, that .doc file you received yesterday, the magazine laying over there...

You'd like to visit them, but when you get online you don't feel like digging through your emails to find 'em. You can't remember which document it was in, and that magazine is loaned to a friend...

Even if you run across one that inspires the effort to visit, you have to interrupt what you are doing to go there to bookmark it if you're even online, or copy the link and paste it somewhere and save it, or scribble it down on a piece of paper destined to get lost...

Well, I got quite tired of it, so I wrote a System Tray URL sniffer for capturing URLs and holding them until "you get around to it".

Online, offline, in your email or news reader, even your browser of choice - anywhere, in any program, at any time, a URL capture is only a swipe and a tap away. All you have to do is highlight the link and copy it to the Windows Clipboard. That's it!

You don't even have to issue a paste. urlybird sits patiently in the System Tray and monitors the Clipboard. Whenever new text is sent to the Clipboard, urlybird checks it, pecks out the URLs and holds them aside. You don't have to issue any great care in highlighting the URL, just swipe past it with your mouse - it will be parsed out, trimmed up and presented in a confirmation dialog [which can be suppressed] for your approval. You can even highlight and copy multiple URLs at a time. For that URL you saw in the magazine, a manual entry is available too, from the System Tray - so that you don't have to start up another application such as notepad just for the sake of typing and copying to the Clipboard.

Later, when you are online and you have a chance or feel like visiting them, they are right down there, just a click away and I mean literally. Pick one and urlybird even pushes it to your default browser and automatically drops it from the list if you choose. You can also subsort into folders for keeps and save links as text, html, into IE, Netscape & Opera bookmarks or use a floppy and Synchronization feature to take links to a different PC. Very configurable, including the ability to define ignores on specific URLs or string patterns.

Got a Palm Handheld?

urlybird can even check your MemoPad for links that you've jotted down while away from your PC!
